Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

I went to the movies this weekend to see Insidious: Chapter 2 (which was bad ass) and was forced to watch the trailer for Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. I have to admit that up until that point I had done everything in my power to avoid seeing this trailer. My every instinct told me that this movie was a steamy pile of monkey shit captured on film. After being forced to see this trailer I have changed my mind. This movie looks hilarious! Jeff Tremaine and Johnny Knoxville have come up with a great way to extend the legacy of Jackass without beating a dead horse: a story to structure the pranks around.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa will be in theaters October 25th.

Gravity

The idea of floating away from Earth, into absolute nothingness, and knowing that you’re only going to live as long as your oxygen supply is terrifying. And this trailer for Gravity captures that terror quite well. From a visual effects perspective all I can say is WOW. What is it really about, though? I really don’t get a clear hint at the plot (aside from something really bad happens in space), so I can’t get too excited about it. Is it going to be two hours of Sandra Bullock screaming, grunting and gasping for air as she tumbles through space? It’s something to consider, but it still looks like it might be worth the price of admission.

RoboCop

“Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.”

The first official RoboCop trailer has been released and, I gotta say, it looks a lot better than I thought it would. The new cyborg getup looks sick and so does ED-209! I’m not completely sold, though. I didn’t see anything in this trailer that I couldn’t wait to see until it’s release as a rental. Everything that I’ve read says the studio wants a PG-13 rating for broader audience appeal, so it won’t be as raw as the original. That doesn’t mean that a well-written and well-acted film (it features Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson) can’t make this more than a typical rehash. Christopher Nolan’s Batman series is rated PG-13 and it kicks much ass. Maybe a future trailer can convince me. We’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you think about the RoboCop reboot?
